About the Author
Dr. Tony Martin is Emeritus Professor of Africana Studies at Wellesley College. He taught earlier at the University of Michigan-Flint. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota, Brandeis University, Brown University and The Colorado College. He spent a year as an honorary research fellow at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad.

Professor Martin has authored, compiled or edited 14 books including Caribbean History: From Pre-Colonial Origins to the Present (2012) published by Pearson. Earlier works include Amy Ashwood Garvey: Pan-Africanist, Feminist and Mrs. Marcus Garvey No. 1, Or, A Tale of Two Amies, Literary Garveyism: Garvey, Black Arts and the Harlem Renaissance, and the classic study of the Garvey Movement, Race First: the Ideological and Organizational Struggles of Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association (1976).
Martin qualified as a barrister-at-law at the Honorable Society of Gray's Inn in 1965, did a B.Sc. honours degree in economics at the University of Hull, and the M.A. and Ph.D. in history at Michigan State University.

Martin's articles and reviews have appeared in the Journal of African American History; African Studies Review; Washington Post Book World; Journal of Caribbean History; Journal of American History and elsewhere.

His writings appear in such reference works as the UNESCO General History of the Caribbean; the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and American National Biography. His awards include a grant from the American Philosophical Society. He has reviewed articles and programs for scholarly journals, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Austrian Science Fund. His biographical listings can be found in Who's Who in America; Who's Who in the World; Personalities Caribbean; Who's Who Among African Americans; and elsewhere. He has been a reviewer and consultant for publishers and has served as an expert witness for Congressional hearings.�������������

About the Author

Raven Grimassi is a Neo-Pagan scholar and award-winning author of more than eighteen books on Witchcraft, Wicca, and Neo-Paganism. He has been devoted to the study and practice of witchcraft for over forty years. Raven is co-founder and co-director of the Ash, Birch, and Willow tradition.

Grimassi’s background includes training in old forms of witchcraft as well as Brittic Wicca, the Pictish-Gaelic tradition, Italian Witchcraft, and Celtic Traditionalist Witchcraft. Raven was also a member of the Rosicrucian Order, and studied the Kabbalah through the First Temple of Tifareth under Lady Sara Cunningham.��

Raven currently lives in New England with his wife and co-author Stephanie Taylor-Grimassi. Together they direct The Fellowship of the Pentacle, a modern Mystery School devoted to preserving pre-Christian European spirituality.

Unlike a number of other books on witchcraft, Spirit of the Witch is about the spirituality of witchcraft and the author, Raven Grimassi, takes us on a journey to discover the basic principles that unite all witches, our "commonality."
Ask any long-time witch and she will most likely tell you that spell-casting is but a small part of being a witch. We spend alot of our time doing "normal" things: dishes, laundry, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, and cursing at the computer. Spell-casting is usually set aside for occasions of great need.
Grimassi displays our strong connection with trees, stones, fire, and the natural world quite admirably given the non-comformiality of our character. Symbolic meanings are given for mytho-magical items such as the cauldron and the broom. There are also the meanings and the use of the tools of the Craft as well as dedications for each: the pentacle, wand, athame, and chalice. Nearly all of the basics of the Path are covered here.
So what makes a witch? Who is allowed to be a witch? As Grimassi well knows, the answer to those questions changes with each witch you ask. Despite this little glitch of ours, Grimassi walks the noble path of self-discovery and gives the reader an example of a dedication to perform.
White, grey, or black witches; the Sabbats, Solstices, and Equinoxes; responsibility for our own actions, and self-discipline are all discussed within the pages of this book.

Editor needed!

I thought this was a really good read - until the last 10 pages! The writing is good, and I thought that the characterizations of the teen-agers was particularly accurate, reflecting reality rather that what parents hope! There was a bit of a hole in the forensics - it appears that after the police found the gun, they stopped gathering evidence at the house - the girl had been in the bedroom and bathroom, and would have left evidence. Also, there was no attempt to discover where she was killed - it seemed to me she was shot in the house, and there should have been blood evidence. But putting that aside, the ending just leaves you hanging! I won't spoil it for you, but when you're done with the book, trust me, you'll be going, "Huh??".

very disappointing

I can understand why this book isn't available through amazon and hasn't appeared in any book stores, even though its been out for a year. Its simply very disappinting and the weakest of Freeman's works. I've always enjoyed his other books, but in this one, it seemed like his heart just wasn't in it. Even though the central characters are familiar from other books, it seems that he just doesn't care about them and the story. The story is fast-paced and relatively entertaining, but the characters never gain any dimension. The ending is a non-ending and feels very rushed. There is no resolution and no answers. It wasn't a bad book, but all in all, it simply wasn't worth the read.

Not Quite
By nope, not me
There is something off with th book. The author tried to tackle a complex legal and psychological thriller, he couldn't quite finesse it.
Someone else pointed out there were loopholes with forensics. Big noticeable ones....yet he goes into detail on the menu. What kind muffins are baked....

And the courtroom did i miss something, it seems a key witness for the defense never got to the stand. It made no sense, I got the distinct feeling while we the trial scenes the author decided on different ending. The result the end of the book feels rushed and disjointed.
I could on about his writing style and issues with point of view bouncing around, why bother. If you are a casual reader and thing like tight plotting, pacing and attention to detail are not a big deal you will enjoy the story.
If those elements are a big deal, I can't recommend because you won't find them here.

Great first taste of Joseph Flynn

If you're a lover of the short and/or Joseph Flynn, this collection shouldn't disappoint. My first impression coming from the cover art, was that this might contain stories of vampires (I'm a fan), so I think it's important to note that while there is a spattering of "pointy teeth", there isn't a vampire to be seen in this book (I didn't miss them). A few of my favorites:

Smoked Out- A story about two men who try to out-do(nate) each other when it comes to the local library.

Fixer-Upper- Two greedy ghosts have the tables turned on them when a surprise guest shows up, moves in and makes a few renovations.

High Heat- A young, washed-up Major League pitcher hits rock-bottom because he can't hit anything else. On the eve of his final game, can he resuscitate his dead career and make his last pitch count?

Speed Trap- There's a new Sheriff in town, hired to clean-up the riff-raff, and he's got ways of making you walk.

Sleepover- Two privileged kids with different outlooks on life, are thrown together one night during a snowstorm and learn a thing or two about themselves.

I also like that it has a Table of Contents, a big plus for me. There were a handful of minor editing glitches (for the sticklers' consideration), but they didn't affect the flow for me. All in all, it was an enjoyable book and an easy read. Plus, a steal at this price! I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

Pointy Teeth

This is my least favorite Joe Flynn book so far. It contains short stories which I dislike because, well, they're short. Just when you get into the action, they're done. Rather like reading a paperback and thinking that you have at least ten more pages to read only to find out that the last pages are an excerpt of a new book.

Warning! What I thought would be an enjoyable reading experience, based on a wonderful sampling, turned out to be nothing more than weird but decent written short stories that made very little sense in the end. I didn't realize the stories were NOT connected and was extremely disappointed with this book.

Short and sweet essays by all the giants

This tremendous collection of bite-sized essays by the world’s economic pundit establishment was pretty much made for my morning commute.

So, at the risk of sounding like Lou Bega, it’s Rogoff vs Summers on Monday, Bernanke vs Taylor on Tuesday and Feldstein vs DeLong on Friday. Really good stuff. Because they are restricted to five pages, they get down to their point immediately.

The Emerging Markets bit was not as good, with loads of locals using this as a platform to say they did a good job, even the Brazil fellow. Oh, and the Bank Negara guy things he’s Martin Feldstein and does not end his piece with any references. Skip most of the EM bit and go straight to the inimitable Raghuram Rajan’s contribution. It’s as good a summary of where we find ourselves and how we got here as Olivier Blanchard’s.

Read this very accessible compilation and you will be 100% caught up with the status quo of the debate: secular stagnation versus debt supercycle, monetary policy vs macroprudential measures, usefulness of increased central bank balance sheets versus lack of safe assets, this is the big guys slugging it out.

I have to admit my mind went through so many crazy scenarios/theories when I read the title and synopsis. Once I started reading the book – I realized Kimberla Lawson Roby was taking this book in a very different direction than my dramatic brain. (Yep! There goes my Columbo investigative award)

Once I started reading this book – I couldn’t put it down. The conflict between Celine and her husband, Keith was written from a realistic point-of-view. There are so many times that we become so comfortable in a relationship/marriage that we overlook that major things such as communication. Even though to some readers the title could be a bit misleading because you would expect a story that focused mostly on Lauren and Celine. But the way Kimberla Lawson Roby tells Celine’s story – Lauren always showed up at the right times.

Kimberla Lawson Roby proves why she is the best at what she does. She has delivered an emotional, thought-provoking, and engaging read. Best Friends Forever is an unforgettable story about the power of faith & friendship. Best Friends can’t stop bad things from happening to you, but they can be there to help you get through them.

Best Friends Forever was an interesting read. Meet Celine and Keith. Two hard working, over-achievers, who allowed every day life to come between them. Never fear, God sent Lauren, Celine's best friend are there for her. When times get tough, do not allow pride to take over your life. A true friend will not have to be asked anything, but offer everything they have to you. It was a quick read. I wold love to have had a more detailed story on Keith and why he made the choices he made.

Keith and Celine Richardson have been married for twelve years with a little girl named Kassie. But lately, their home has not been the "happily ever after" that it used to be. With Celine's business, Kassie, and her best friend Lauren, Celine has not made time for her husband. With the constant arguments and Keith coming in at all times of the night and early morning, their marriage is crumbling.

To make matters worse, Celine has found out that she has cancer. So now she has to deal with her failing marriage, take care of her daughter, and her cancer treatments. She is now wondering if she's going to have to weather this storm alone. Soon she realizes that she does have a great support team and it comes in the form of her very best friend Lauren. Celine and Lauren have been inseparable since childhood. She finally decides to tell her best friend about her health and the health of her marriage. Is it too late for her friend to give her the support that she needs?

What can I say about Best Friends Forever by Kimberla Lawson Roby? I have never been disappointed with one of her novels. This is a short read, but it's a good one. It doesn't jump all over the place. It stays on track with how Celine and Keith's marriage started to go down hill. I have always loved how the author incorporates God in her books. It's never too much or too little. It’s always straight to the point and you know that no matter what your circumstances are God is always in control! Trust me, there are some twist and turns throughout the book that you will not expect. Best Friends Forever is a short novel but a good one. I highly recommend this book.
