Helps put things into place

If you've ever wondered (as I have), when is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb? Which comes first, the Battle of Armageddon or the Battle of Gog and Magog? What happens to people who come to Christ during the Tribulation - how do they get into the Kingdom, or do they even get in? Or any of a myriad other questions about the order of End Times events, then you need to read this book. Dr. Jimmy DeYoung has a knack for taking complicated texts and laying them out in a way even a child could understand. (As he points out in the preface, that's where all this got started - teaching Revelation to children!)

I would highly recommend this to anyone who is at all confused by the Last Days Bible prophecies, anyone who is on the fence about Pretrib / posttrib / mid-trib / other, or anyone who wants to be able to answer questions from those who are (Bible study leaders, Sunday School teachers, Pastors, witnesses, etc.).

Even if you have it down in your own mind, this is an excellent guide to help you know how to explain it to others in a clear, step-by-step, this-then-this-then-this fashion. By looking at the book of Revelation chronologically instead of chapter order, it makes much more sense to a layman like me. I especially like the timeline graphics throughout the book to let you know at a glance when the events being discussed will take place.

Jimmy does a fine job of sorting out what's being portrayed in this book about the end times. He makes clear each instance of events that are not given chronologically so the time line makes sense.

A great read for beginning Bible Prophecy students (or old pros)

This is a good read especially if you are new to Bible Prophecy and Revelation confuses you. This book discusses Revelation in chronological order, not in the order it is written which is sometimes confusing as there are "parenthesis" in the chapters that tends to get new readers confused. Highly recommended!!

I'm 18 lectures into this, it's about my 15th audio course I've taken from The Great Courses. This one is absolutely terrific. Satterfield explains this rational therapy method very clearly, includes the methods, evidence from journals of its efficacy,, and recordings from sessions in which some very articulate clients work on difficult personal issues. CBT, which I had known little about, is compelling. It incorporates thoughts and behaviors, yes, but also emotions. His 30 minute 'lectures' are content rich and crystal clear. Highly highly recommend.

Don't just meditate your way to a better life!

This is definitely worth the listen. Has some great practical tips on how to actively improve your thinking. From what S.M.A.R.T. goals are and how to set them, to actively working on the weak points we all have in our personalities. I can appreciate the real world examples. I would have like to hear more about using CBT around limiting beliefs outside of a clinical setting because I think there's potential for application in varying aspects of life. I find with listening to books, I need to put it on 2x speed to stay actively engaged. All in all, this was a great introduction to CBT and it's spurred me to pick up more books on it.

12 hours 18 lectures that could be boiled down into an hour and essentialy state : Be self aware and keep a journal

This is basically a college course that could have been taught in 3 lectures extended out to 18. Maybe on average , 3-5 minutes is relevant on each lecture. It does break down Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in terms of examples of how its applied, and amazingly repetitive examples of using it for certain issues : fear, anxiety, etc. But I basically learned nothing new whatsoever about CBT, about why it works and how it re-programs the brain, about specific places where it differs from just asking someone to be self aware and keep a notebook.

Unless you are going to be a psychologist who is using CBT every day and needs very specific pointers for very specific cases that are present in maybe 1 out of each 30 min interval, this audio book has no value.

Jeff has been involved in factoring since 1994. He writes a monthly column on small receivables for The American Cash Flow Journal, a national publication of the American Cash Flow Association, and is a regular speaker at the ACFA’s annual Cash Flow conventions. His company, Dash Point Financial Services, Inc. purchases invoices of several small businesses. He provides numerous resources and consulting services for people interested in becoming small factors, and he is the author of several books including Factoring Small Receivables.

Factoring Fundamentals - The epitome of good advice

Factoring Fundamentals by Jeff Callender is the ultimate guide to the world of Small Factors. It describes in vivid detail the opportunities and risks one will encounter in this line of business. Furthermore - and perhaps even more importantly - it helps you understand how to capitalize on these opportunities and manage the risks in the most appropriate manner.
The book highlights and explains the "how to's" and the "do's & don'ts" of Factoring in plain English and leaves the reader with a thorough understanding of what this business is all about, what to expect, and how to succeed.
Based on his own long-standing experience as a Small Factor, Jeff shares his vast learning and outstanding personal expertise, including the conceptual constructs behind the business together with the necessary processes and procedures. He even provides invaluable hands-on advice and his own financial calculations on how to run this business successfully.
But Jeff does not stop there. He kicks it up a notch by even including a section for "self-assessment". This section lets you analyze whether Factoring provides the right environment for you, and whether you have got what it takes to make Factoring an enjoyable business for you to excel in.
Factoring Fundamentals is written in an illustrative, no-nonsense, easy to read style that - in conjunction with the book's captivating contents - actually makes it a real page-turner. good book great series

This is part of a four book series where the author tells all about the factoring business. This is the first in the series but, I have to admit, I read the case studies book first. If you want to know why you should read that review.

While this book did not answer all my questions, (I have two more to read anyway) it did a great job in answering questions that I had not thought of yet. He is very clear, and does not go over and over the same material. The best parts of the book are not where he tells you what factoring is and how it works. No, by far the best parts are in two other areas; analyzing if you are right for this business and suggestions for how to learn the business without losing your shirt.

While analyzing if you would be good in this business Jeff lists all the attributes that would help you, and some that might be a problem. Good things to have are people skills, determination, enough math to know if you are making any money, and attention to detail. Surprisingly a large bank account is not on this list, which brings us to the other best part of the book.

Jeff says a large bank account can be a hindrance because you are tempted to jump in the deep end before you know how to dog paddle. Starting with a small amount of money, and one or two clients lets you learn the business and lets you get your rules and processes in place before you go full time.

Not only can this be a good paying part time business, the author suggests, recommends, and encourages you to do this part time while you learn the business. Sounds good to me.

Great book for managers

This book gives an overview of how factoring works and the lingo. This book could be helpful to business owners/managers looking for cash. Its important that the managers/owners understand that cashflow is important and how factoring (often viewed as expensive). Actually is required sometimes to recieve funds for growth. Sometimes manager's and owner's have a hard time understanding that rapid growth causes a cash flow pinch and can be dire. They view the interest as excessive but is generally better then a loan. A loan shows on the books and can bring down company valuations, increase your debt ratio and hamper any future loans you may require.

Having been an international-level athlete, coach and judge, Arthur Drechsler brings a wealth of experience and love to this book. Is it possible that too much love and experience went into this book? At over 400,000 words it's tempting to think so,but the book's depth of coverage isn't a fault. It's the text's development and execution that are suspect here. The book is "encyclopedic," but only in the sense that it attempts to cover every aspect of the sport of Olympic-style weightlifting (It does not run through an alphabetized list of concepts and terms.).The editors at A is A, in their zeal to publish an "instant classic" (their own Words), failed to reign in Drechsler's prose (a good copyeditor should have lost 10,000 words) or focus Drechsler on one task (he could have written an encyclopedia and a training guide). Instead, the segment of the audience looking for a reference has to do a lot of sifting to get at the nuggets of information they want (the index helps), and those looking for a training guide would be better served to look elsewhere. This is not a gym-friendly book. Its bulk and poor design make it an unuseful practical tool, with less than adequately illustrated exercises and techniques scattered throughout the text.Yet despite these flaws, this book demands attention from all those serious about the sport. Drechsler's sheer determination toward thoroughness drives this work. In Drechsler's voice dedicated athletes will find an advocate that they may value; coaches and strength training professionals will find a force that they must reckon with. -- From Independent Publisher

The weightlifting encyclopedia

This book is good value for money and is an interesting addition to any weightlifters book case.
Pros include detailed descriptions of the olympic lifts and a good variety of assistance excercises .
The fundamental flaw of the book is its lack of exact application for the Russian and Bulgarian training systems.It gives lots of info about general training including yearly tonnages and varying intensities over the month but nothing specific on the Conjugate Sequence System that enabled the Russian weightlifters to dominate during the 70 s .It also questions results of Verhoshanskis research on depth jumping and other Bulgarian research on testosterone production stating that Western research is more reliable due to more accurate instruments and therefore results in this regard.Has he not seen the care and attention to scientific analysis on the polish weightlifting video

on you tube ?The author denegrates Western periodisation but fails to provide any specific alternatives to it only giving specifics on Paul Andersons training and Ed Coan. Eastern periodisation was not based on these concepts because they discovered that complex parallel methods worked better than purely linear sequences .He also doesnt like the good morning or glute ham raise which have been used by many weightlifters including Vasily Alexeev to bullet proof the posterior chain.If you want to get good at olympic weightlifting then do not take this book as anything like gospel but look at the original reseach from Sportivny Press including Managing The Training Of The Weightlifters by Laputin or even the articles on Westside barbell.com.
Despite amazing references on the cover this book only half delivers and contains far too much unsubstantiated opinion from the author .

Unbridled acces to one of the most experience minds in USA weightlifting.

I currently train with Artie Drechsler and I will say that for those who do not have the privilege to do so, this book is as close as it gets. Artie has really poured the wealth of his knowledge into this book. As a matter of fact, he has never told me anything that isn't written somewhere in here. Of course, there is no replacement for the targeted cues that a coach will give his individual athletes (rather than the overwhelming amount of information in a book), but Artie is not withholding any of his extensive knowledge in this opus.

As opposed to a lot of vocal/internet-famous coaches in the USA weightlifting community, Artie has been involved in the sport for over 50 years, has set a world record, and has trained many national caliber athletes! Even at his age, he still puts up big weights on squats and pulls and has a very nimble snatch.

If you're in the NYC area, come get it from the source itself. If not, this is the next best thing.

Take Your Time Reading and Review Often

An outstanding book in all respects. I started out as a powerlifter and got into weightlifting later in my training. The detail on the technique, science, importance, etc. of Olympic weightlifing is incredible, accurate, and amazing. Every thing I have tried works (after figuring out exactly what the author means), and I have just begun to scratch the surface of the available information. The book does not replace a coach but will give incredible insight when you do not have the time or money to hire a coach or when one is not available. I, also, bought the companion video, which is only available directly from the author (try A is A communications) and is the best video I have found on weightlifting - I own 5 and have previewed another 10.

This book is for anyone who is serious about coaching or participating in the sport of weightlifting or for anyone who is serious about strength and athletic performance. It is not for the casual reader or those not dedicated to sports performance as the technical detail, lack of pictures (there are a few), etc. do not make for an easy read. Furthermore, it is not a motivational book written to inspire you to get off your butt and exercise, nor does it give exercise plans to get you in shape. It is what is says... "A Guide to World Class Performance."

Very in depth...

I should say upfront that I have not actually read this entire book. I was working on a project on Merleau-Ponty and was on a limited time frame so I did not have time to read all of it, but I read about half of it and since no one has reviewed this work yet and since it is really an excellent book I thought I should say something about it. I'll keep it short and sweet and save a longer review for when I have finally made my way through the whole book.

The first thing I should say about Renaud Barbaras's book is that it is very challenging. I've read a number of books on Merleau-Ponty and this book was by far the most difficult. So it should not be the first book you read on Merleau-Ponty. The depth of analysis in this book is very advanced which is bad for beginners but is very good for anyone who is looking for a deep understanding of Merleau-Ponty's philosophy.

Renaud Barbaras is primarily interested in elucidating Merleau-Ponty's late ontology, so over half of The Being of the Phenomenon is a detailed analysis of Merleau-Ponty's late, unfinished work, The Visible and the Invisible. The Visible and the Invisible is really made up of a few complete chapters which Merleau-Ponty considered to be merely introductory to the major work he had planned, and which was left unfinished by his untimely death, along with a selection of working notes which, while often brilliant, remain cryptic and forbidding to the new-comer. A book like Renaud Barbaras's which attempts to reconstruct Merleau-Ponty's late ontology is, therefore, extremely valuable; indeed, invaluable for the Merleau-Ponty scholar or for anyone who takes Merleau-Ponty's late ontology seriously.

Renaud Barbaras attempts to illuminate Merleau-Ponty's late ontology by bringing Merleau-Ponty into dialogue with Edmund Husserl and Jean-Paul Sartre. This is not a merely arbitrary move on Renaud Barbaras's part. As anyone who has read The Visible and the Invisible knows these two philosophers figure prominently in Merleau-Ponty's own work, especially in the more complete introductory chapters. If I am understanding Barbaras (and Merleau-Ponty) correctly Merleau-Ponty basically attempts to chart a middle path between Edmund Husserl, who conceived of the transcendence of the thing in relation to its various perspectives within consciousness as a pure signification, and Jean-Paul Sartre who conceived of consciousness as nothingess which allowed consciousness to reach the thing in its brute facticity. Merleau-Ponty does not treat the unity of the thing beyond its perspectives as a pure signification, but he also does not view consciousness as pure nothingness in relation to a brute facticity. The thing has sense and it has depth. This sense and depth keeps the thing from being a mere brute facticity while at the same time avoiding the other extreme of viewing the thing as a pure signification possessed by consciousness, at least implicitly, before it even encounters the thing in its facticity.

I also think that Merleau-Ponty's ontology is able to solve Kant's problem of the thing-in-itself since, for Merleau-Ponty, a thing is not an unknown X which lies behind its various predicates (which would make it unknowable); rather, the thing expresses its essence in all of its predicates (and essence should not be understood as a form, or definition, lying behind the thing since Merleau-Ponty basis his own notion of essence on Heidegger's understanding of essence, or Wesen, in which essence is a verb). There is a beautiful passage somewhere in Merleau-Ponty where he argues that even just by looking at a glass we can already tell, to some degree, how it would sound if we tapped it, how it would feel if we touched it, etc. since all of these qualities express the same essence (I may not have this example exactly right since I do not have the passage in front of me but I believe this is basically an accurate summary of Merleau-Ponty's point). The 'glass' is not something that lies behind all of these various qualities but is an essence which expresses itself in all of them, the visual appearance of the glass expresses the same essence as its brittle texture, its clanging sound when struck, etc. (at the risk of bending language beyond its normal use I think we could say that 'the glass glasses' and the glasses qualities are the result of the glass glassing).

This little summary is, as I am well aware, very inadequate as a summary of Merleau-Ponty's late ontology. I have made no mention of the world, the flesh, reversibility, ecart, or chiasm all of which are central to Merleau-Ponty's ontology and which are covered in a great deal of depth in Renaud Barbaras's book. Due to limitations of space, and limitations in my own understanding, I am not really able to summarize all of this adequately. So I will end my review by simply saying that Merleau-Ponty's ontology is brilliant, and revolutionary, and offers many new and exciting answers in regard to some perennial problems in philosophy and no one who is interested in Merleau-Ponty's philosophy can afford to miss this work!

A Rightful Classic of Merleau-Ponty Studies

When the great French phenomenologist Maurice Merleau-Ponty died of a sudden stroke at the age of fifty-three, it was clear that he was in the process of undertaking an extraordinary retooling of his earlier philosophical endeavours. While books like The Structure of Behavior and the Phenomenology of Perception had attempted to lay down a new vocabulary by which to speak of the lived, perceptual experiences of sentient bodies, neither had put stress on an effort to work out a fully fleshed ontological stance which would undergird their respective findings. Thus, found buried in the working notes of the The Visible and the Invisible - the half-finished manuscript that Merleau-Ponty was working on at the time of his death - we find the following note: "Results of Ph.P - Necessity of bringing them to ontological explication." While Merleau-Ponty himself only left hints and traces of what this explication would have looked like, The Being of the Phenomenon - Renaud Barbaras's magisterial reconstruction of Merleau-Ponty's ontology - takes on precisely this task, to spectacular effect.

More than just a restatement however, Barbaras's central claim is that what motivated Merleau-Ponty's 'ontological turn' was the realization that unless he could show how truth itself has an origin in perceptual life - how the order of intelligibility emerges out from, and within the sensuous order - Merleau-Ponty risked relegating his descriptions of perceptual life to a mere 'provisional stage' of human experience. So consigned, the twin threats of both intellectualism and empiricism (the perils of which Merleau-Ponty's early works aimed studiously to avoid) would thus be able to re-institute themselves at a 'higher level' of human existence, leaving the phenomenology of perception in the dust of a mere psychological - rather than properly philosophical - footing. Oriented according to this reading, Barbaras's study thus unfolds in a manner of a captivating detective story, tracking the progression by which Merleau-Ponty arduously and creatively attempted to tackle the problem of giving ontological voice to his phenomenological song.

Key to these efforts, according to Barbaras, was Merleau-Ponty's newfound regard for the centrality of language with respect to the nature of perception. In his study of language - particularly the structuralist conceptions of language engaged with in The Prose of the World - Merleau-Ponty found the resources he needed make the ontological leap his earlier work demanded. In particular, what was to become a full blown 'philosophy of expression' would show Merleau-Ponty that the classical phenomenological distinction between fact and essence - thematized by Husserl to underpin the very method by which phenomenology was to be practiced - could not be properly maintained without compromising the specificity of appearance. Extending the linguistic insight that sense does not exist on it's own in some rarefied sphere of ideality, and instead requires a constitutive instantiation in the materiality of the sign in order to function, so too did Merleau-Ponty recognize that the ideality of essence similarly requires an implication within a 'worldly' order of fact - an implication which, for Merleau-Ponty, would require nothing less than a radical overhaul of the most basic presuppositions of the phenomenological project.

And it is just to this reworking that late writings like The Visible and the Invisible - of which Barbaras provides a chapter by chapter breakdown, together with in-depth thematic discussions - undertakes. Indeed, while the first half of The Being of the Phenomenon works to set up the trajectory of Barbaras' reading, the entire second half of the book lends itself to a blow by blow account of what Merleau-Ponty's ontology-in-the-works - in it's full splendor and in the light of Barbaras's rigorously researched imagination - would have turned out to be. Notions like dimentionality, intersubjectivity, depth, flesh, desire, space and time are all given a thorough grounding in the terms set down above, and further illuminated by Barbaras's erudite discussions of Merleau-Ponty's distinctiveness with respect to his philosophical peers like Descartes, Leibniz, Husserl, Sartre and Heidegger - also serve to bring out the specificity and originality of his endeavour. It helps too that Barbaras writes with a flair and confidence that imbues The Being of the Phenomenon with a narrative momentum that never ceases to drag a reader along with it. While this isn't the place to look for a critical reading of Merleau-Ponty - a task Barbaras undertakes elsewhere - this really is a classic of secondary literature that it has long been known to be.

"A fantastic book. Short yet very concise chapters contain a wealth of information, drugs and dose rates are displayed in easy reference tables making it super fast to double check if what you have just drawn into the syringe will be enough or too much!
As this book is a handbook it would be silly to expect it to explain the huge amount of theory behind the subjects of equine anaesthesia, however it is amazing for putting in your back pocket on those long equine surgery nights during rotations to make sure you have vital information with you. I don’t even like equine studies, but I found myself reading pages and pages of the book without realising it, because the information is relayed to the reader in an easy to digest manner.
I can also honestly say that I have already recommended this book to three of my friends who are interested in equine surgery, showed them the book and got the same response each time, which was something along the lines of ‘That is really really good!’
A top notch handbook for a tough subject. Recommended to all."

"Equine anaesthesia can be one of those areas dreaded by many clinicians, especially if their practice does not undertake many equine surgical procedures. Fear not; the second edition of this handbook again provides an easy reference to the expanding world of equine anaesthesia. The book’s size, and relatively short chapters, may make it less daunting to those who find it easier to send themselves to sleep rather than the horse! The book is still intended for all those who anaesthetise horses, both in a surgical environment and also the occasional ‘field’ anaesthesia.

All in all, this handbook provides the essential drugs and doses required to achieve a safer, smoother and more pain-free anaesthesia. It is not a cumbersome book – it fits easily into the glove box in the car, or on the anaesthetic trolley. It is a must-have book for general and specialised equine practice. Although many sections in the handbook, particularly on analgesia, have been updated, some areas remain unchanged, and potential purchasers considering updating their original version may see limited changes."

"This book is a must for all veterinary surgeons who carry out equine work. Not only does it cover all aspects of anaesthesia, but also has an excellent chapter on analgesia, sedation and premedication.

Equine nurses will also find this book useful for its chapter on monitoring. Every equine practice should own several copies, and have one tied to the anaesthetic machine. The chart in the front cover, "A routine for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after cardiac arrest", should be read before induction by most veterinary anaesthesists, unless they carry our general anaesthetics on a daily basis.

To sum up, this is an excellent book, which should be read - and re-read - at every opportunity. The knowledge within will definitely stop many panic situations and, I suspect, it will save many horses' lives."

Good quick reference

This book is a good quick reference for during anesthetic procedures. Some info is out of date and there is not a lot of great detail. So it is essentially what it claims, a handbook. I keep it on my anesthesia cart for a quick guide when needed.
