Body Rides, by Richard Laymon

Neal has been carrying a gun in his car lately—just to be safe. And it looks like it's a good thing he has. When he spots a woman tied naked to a tree and a man ready to kill her, he has no choice but to shoot the attacker. As a reward, the woman gives Neal something unimaginable.

Neal's reward is a bracelet. A very special bracelet. It enables its wearer to step inside other people, to see through their eyes, to feel whatever they feel. To take "body rides." But Neal has a big problem. The man he shot isn't dead. And he wants revenge. First he's going to finish what he started with the woman. Then he's going after Neal...

Very interesting story but....

This is a very odd story. The typos drove me crazy- how many times and ways could Marta be spelled wrong? The story idea had to be written by a man because women don't act or react the way the story leads you to believe. The character Sue got to be rather obnoxious. Overall it is an episode of Criminal Minds with a X rating.

A bit different than the average Laymon. My favorite!!
By Mys Beach
While most of Richard Laymon's books deal with straight up human horror and evil, this one dips a toe into the supernatural. There is a magic bracelet that lets the wearer enter another person and share their experiences. The "ridden" person is unaware of the rider and the rider can not influence the host.

My main problem with this book is that, having passed away, he can't write any more like it. While I love the Beast House books, this has become my favorite Laymon. While his signature eroticism and gore are present, it doesn't seem as gratuitous as some of his books. (His books seem to be written from the viewpoint of an immature, sex starved/obsessed young adult male and in places seem straight up wank material. If you're a prude or squeamish, none of his books are for you.)

The interpersonal relationship between the three main characters is a bit hard to believe. The main character's established girlfriend is not only basically fine with him sleeping with another woman, she lets the young woman stay in her apartment. It felt quite contrived and required some serious suspension of disbelief on my part.

The ending is a bit of a twist. It leaves you thinking,, and wondering where you can find a body ride bracelet of your own.

Hard (No Pun Intended) To Put Down
By John Collins
I ended up getting this free at my local library, apparently they didn't think the book was good enough to hold onto any longer. Anyway I thought the book was unbelievably great. Normally I'm more into a good Stephen King, but this book definitely introduced the thrill a Stephen King book provides. I feel like this book would be more suitable for someone in their teens or pre-teens, but overall it was pretty good.
When I first started reading I felt as if I was reading a not so heavy erotic novel. I believe Laymon's sexually graphic, gory, and unpredictable turns helped make the book such a page turner. In the novel, Neal saves the life of a woman who gives him a magic bracelet that allows him to enter the mind and body of another person without them knowing he is there. Alone the premise sounds sort of cheesy, but its interesting AND A PAGE TURNER (as I said before).
You will not regret giving this book a shot! I'm actually thinking about re-reading it! Its been a while. I'm expanding my book collection and am hoping to find other Richard Laymon books to get into, so if you could suggest some that would be awesome. PLEASE give it a shot.
